Cystatin C(Cys-C) is one of the cysteine protease inhibitor proteins, and the serum concentration is mainly determined by GFR (glomerular filtration rate). As an endogenous marker of GFR, its characteristics are: 1) It is produced at a constant rate in the body; 2) The kidney is the only organ that clears CysC from the circulation; 3) The plasma CysC content is stable and is not affected by other factors such as sex, age, diet, inflammation and blood lipid levels.
