Heparin-binding protein (HBP)
Product description

(Latex immunoturbidimetric method)

Heparin Binding Protein (HBP) Detection Kit

------------- Novel acute bacterial infection marker, early indicator of sepsis organ dysfunction.

1

Biological properties of HBP:

Heparin-Binding Protein (HBP) HBP is a protein secreted by mature neutrophils, when bacterial infection or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) or acute lung injury (ALI) and respiratory failure occur , its level will increase. Nonbacterial infections do not raise HBP.

HBP is one of the earliest elevated markers of bacterial infection and can be detected in plasma within 1 h of localized or mild bacterial infection. This is an advantage over procalcitonin (PCT).

The level of HBP can also be used to identify various types of postoperative infections. [1

Structural features of HBP

Heparin-binding protein is a neutrophil-derived granule protein whose structure consists of a 222-amino acid single-chain protein containing 8 cysteine residues with aspartic acid residues at positions 100, 114, or 145. Glycosylation site, structurally similar to neutrophil elastin, with 45% homology.

Clinical significance of HBP:

In clinical, heparin-binding protein can be used as a diagnostic index of local infection, auxiliary diagnosis of urinary tract infection, prediction of septic shock and prediction of microcirculatory failure in sepsis.

Comparison of HBP, PCT, CRP HBP: high sensitivity, strong specificity, high positive/negative detection rate, can be detected in the early stage of infection, high concentration in acute bacterial infection, and high concentration in viral infection and non-specific inflammation Low. PCT: It can appear in the early stage of infection, and it increases when the body's infection produces a systemic response. The serum level does not increase significantly during local infection and chronic infection. CRP: A variety of infectious and non-infectious factors (surgery) can cause CRP to rise. It begins to rise 6-8 hours after infection, and reaches a peak at 24-48 hours. The specificity is not ideal.
